Fire Alarm Services
Fire Alarm Standards Explained
BS 5839 Part 1 covers fire detection and alarm systems for commercial buildings. BS 5839 Part 6 covers domestic premises. Both standards define Categories of protection — from Category LD3 (protection of escape routes only) up to Category LD1 (full building coverage including roof voids and floor voids).
Our fire alarm engineers carry out a fire risk assessment alongside the system design to ensure the correct category and detector types are selected. Ionisation, optical and heat detectors all have different response characteristics — the right choice depends on the use of each room.
HMO Fire Alarm Requirements in London
HMO (House in Multiple Occupation) landlords in London are legally required to install a mains-powered, interlinked fire alarm system to BS 5839-6, Category LD2 as a minimum. Local authority requirements vary — some London boroughs require higher categories. We work with landlords across all 32 boroughs to ensure full compliance.
