Testing Requirements Under BS 5839
BS 5839-1 specifies that a manual call point should be tested every week by the responsible person, rotating through all call points so each one is tested at least once per quarter. A full test of the entire system — including all detectors, sounders and the control panel — must be carried out at six-monthly intervals by a competent person.
Our NSI-approved engineers carry out formal six-monthly and annual testing, producing a detailed test report that forms part of your fire safety logbook. These records are essential if the fire authority, insurers or a court of law ever require evidence of due diligence.
False Alarm Reduction Testing
Excessive false alarms are a major problem for London businesses — causing disruption, potential fines from fire authorities, and alarm fatigue that leads staff to ignore real alarms. We offer false alarm audit services that identify the root cause of recurring false activations and recommend corrective measures including detector repositioning, filter updates or system reconfiguration.
