Types of Wireless CCTV
True wireless CCTV cameras transmit video over Wi-Fi or dedicated encrypted radio frequencies to a central hub or NVR. Battery-powered wireless cameras require no power cables either, making them completely cable-free. Solar-powered wireless cameras are also available for outbuildings, gates and remote locations with no mains power nearby.
It is worth noting that many “wireless” cameras still require a mains power cable. We always clarify the exact cable requirements in our survey reports so there are no surprises on installation day.
Limitations of Wireless CCTV
Wireless CCTV is highly practical but does have limitations compared to wired systems. Battery-powered cameras require periodic recharging or battery replacement. Wi-Fi range can be limited in large properties or buildings with thick walls. For large commercial sites, we generally recommend wired IP systems with PoE (Power over Ethernet) for maximum reliability.
